BIOGRAPHY

Patrick James ‘P.J.’ Davitt competed in the men’s boxing at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, losing a unanimous decision to his Romanian opponent.

Davitt was part of an eight-man Irish boxing team – one of the larger Irish boxing squads at an Olympic Games to that point – that competed in Moscow having benefited from a structured collective training programme. His Romanian opponent was one of a group of east European, Mexican and Cuban boxers whose power and professionalism proved too much for several members of the Irish team.
