BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Coyle represented Ireland in the showjumping team event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, finishing 7th alongside Shane Sweetnam and Cian O’Connor.
Coyle delivered two clear rounds with his mare Legacy – the only Irish rider to post a clear in both the team qualifier and the team final – as Ireland came close to a historic medal before finishing 7th. He was retired in the individual qualifier. Coyle grew up in Co. Derry in a horse family and built his early career on the Irish circuit, his primary partner in those years being a mare named Uptown Girl. At a career crossroads in 2015 after losing key horses, he moved to North America in 2016 to ride for Lothlorien Farm, owned by the Grange family, initially as second rider to Conor Swail before taking over as the yard’s number one rider.
His partnership with the Zangersheide mare Legacy became one of the most successful in Irish showjumping, winning multiple five-star grands prix across Europe and North America. In 2022 he became the first Irish rider to win the prestigious CHIO Rotterdam in 58 years, and was part of the team that finished 4th at the 2022 World Championships in Denmark to secure Ireland’s Paris 2024 berth. His brother Jordan Coyle is also an international showjumper. Legacy was retired from competition in February 2026.
