BIOGRAPHY

Fiona Wentges competed in the individual and team three-day eventing at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, riding Ballylusky.

The dressage phase left Ireland in last position, 20 points adrift of the 10th-placed team, and the usual Irish progress through the field in the speed and endurance phase failed to materialise. The illness of Margaret Tollerton’s horse Ipi Tombi, which forced its withdrawal during the endurance phase, added to the pressure on the remaining riders. Ireland finished 11th overall.

A series of one-day training sessions and ten days of collective training under the guidance of Chef d’Equipe and trainer Ronnie MacMahon were held at the Holywood Rath demesne of Mr and Mrs J.B. McGowan before departure.
