BIOGRAPHY
Megan Burns represented Ireland in the women’s Rugby Sevens tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Ireland made their historic debut in the event and finished 8th.
She started two of Ireland’s pool matches including the 38-0 win over South Africa, featured in the quarter-final against Australia, and scored a try in the 8th place playoff against Great Britain. Burns grew up in Tullamore, Co. Offaly and was heavily involved in a variety of sports in her youth – including hockey, athletics and ballet – before taking up rugby at Tullamore RFC at U15 level. She starred for Sacred Heart Tullamore in the IRFU Schools Sevens competition and was coached by future Ireland captain Lucy Rock in the Ireland U18 team, an experience she described as hugely influential.
She made her senior Sevens debut at the Rugby Europe Grand Prix in Kazan in 2018 aged 18 and had accumulated 137 World Series appearances by the time of the Games. She was named Irish Women’s Sevens Player of the Year in 2024. She graduated with first class honours in physiotherapy from University College Dublin and works in a private practice specialising in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy.
