BIOGRAPHY

Tommy Corr competed in the men’s lightweight boxing at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, defeating one of his Lake Placid training sparring partners Arigoma Chiponda of Zimbabwe in his opening bout before losing a majority decision to a Nigerian opponent in his second contest.

The Irish boxing team at LA was based at Lake Placid, New York for a pre-Olympic training camp – where the Irish boxers sparred with teams from Uganda, Zimbabwe, Benin and Central Africa. The familiarity from sparring with Chiponda at Lake Placid appeared to work in Corr’s favour in his first bout.
