Alan Sothern competed in the men’s hockey tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Born in Shankill, Dublin, Sothern played as a forward and developed through the club system with Pembroke Wanderers, going on to earn over 180 international caps for Ireland.

He was a central figure in the team that qualified for the 2016 Games and also played club hockey in the Netherlands and Belgium during his career.
