BIOGRAPHY
Naomi Carroll represented Ireland in the women’s hockey tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where Ireland finished 10th.
Her road to the Olympics was a long one – a versatile forward from Cratloe, Co. Clare, she only took up hockey at 14 yet made her senior Ireland debut in 2012 and was a regular in the squad through 2017. Having been named as a non-travelling reserve for the 2018 World Cup, she suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury playing ladies football for Clare that summer, setting back her return by years. She made her comeback at the 2021 EuroHockey Championships, scoring the winner against Scotland.
Beyond hockey, Carroll is one of Irish sport’s most remarkable multi-sport talents – she played senior inter-county camogie for Limerick and senior inter-county ladies football for Clare, as well as representing Ireland at schoolgirl soccer level alongside fellow Olympian Deirdre Duke. She attended St Patrick’s Comprehensive in Shannon, holds a BA in Maths and Irish from Mary Immaculate College and a Masters in Education from NUI Galway, and works as a Maths, Coding and Irish teacher at Gaelcoláiste Luimnigh in Limerick.
