BIOGRAPHY

Sarah Hawkshaw represented Ireland in the women’s hockey tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where Ireland finished 10th.

A forward and midfielder from Dublin, Hawkshaw attended Mount Sackville school and was also a promising Gaelic footballer with St Brigid’s GAA and Dublin at underage level and a cross country runner with Clonliffe Harriers before concentrating on hockey. She attended the University of Massachusetts from 2014 to 2017 on a hockey scholarship, was named All-America in her final two seasons and graduated ranked 8th in the programme’s all-time scoring list with 40 goals. She made her senior Ireland debut in January 2019 against Chile and scored twice when Ireland finished 5th at that year’s EuroHockey Nations Championship. Her brother Adam captained Ireland to the Under-20 Rugby Grand Slam in 2019.

She holds a degree in Public Health and a Masters in Nutrition and Health. She was subsequently named captain of the Ireland women’s hockey team in December 2024, succeeding the long-serving Katie Mullan.
