BIOGRAPHY
David Fitzgerald was the reserve goalkeeper in the Ireland men’s hockey squad at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, where Ireland made their first ever appearance in the men’s hockey tournament and finished 10th.
From Dublin, Fitzgerald attended St Andrew’s College and studied Business and Law at University College Dublin. He played his club hockey for Monkstown HC, with whom he won three successive Men’s Irish Hockey League titles between 2012-13 and 2014-15 and six Irish Senior Cup finals. He was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament when Monkstown won the EuroHockey Club Trophy in 2014. He made his senior Ireland debut in July 2010 and served as reserve goalkeeper to David Harte throughout the squad’s major tournaments in the 2010s. He also worked as a specialist goalkeeping coach with Dublin University Ladies’ Hockey Club from 2013 and as a personal trainer.
